Honestly any genre works, as long as the comedy is kept at actual comedy and such.
I also prefer characters who can see the obvious as obvious. Basically I am looking for a serious anime.
Ive also watched a lot so just tell me ur favs.

edit: i'm willing to watch old and low quality if it has a good storyline example of this is somtin like Beck. Loved that one.

Yes, yes, yes! This is an awesome romantic anime, it will bring you so many feelings.

I don't know what you have seen, but new anime I have watched/liked:

Sword Art Online
Attack On Titan
Oreimo
Chuunibyou, but that was awhile ago
Oh My Goddess (don't get thrown off the premise it is hilarious)

Older anime (classics, sort of?):

Steins Gate (my favorite, incredibly intense)
Ouran High School Host Club
FMA B
Soul Eater (warning, ending is bad don't watch it for the love of god)
Death Note

There is a lot more out there but that is just the top of my head kind of stuff.

edit: watched a few epis of the youtube linked one, like 5 of em when it first came out. Didn't like it enough to finish =/

The art is the thing that really blew my mind, just google the titan art and it is really cool.

The plot really grips you at first, and the show has small arcs (as in X amount of episodes devoted to Y scenario) so some times you have to bear through the stuff you don't like.

I would say it is worth watching though, I liked it so much I watched all of it in one day and I rarely do that.

If one of those is steins gate you should really watch it!
