So, I have the Freemake video converter and I recently tried to convert HxH(2011) from MKV to MPEG-2. The video is great and so is the sound, but the subtitle encodings didn't transfer and It is just as if it were a raw release. Anyone know of a freeware that will let me convert files from whatever to whatever while keeping the subtitles?

Download VLC media player, it's what I use for MKV files

and this plays them in high quality, no need to convert

I know, But I need to convert them to view them on my ps3. Sometimes I just wanna watch shit on my tv and lay down on my bed. Hauling the PC to my TV just to view anime is a real pain.

with a free editor? no
hardsubbed is where the subtitles are sharpie'd onto the video to prevent editing or removal, they're literally part of the video now not a different layer
most of these are in mp4 format so you can convert it pretty easy

MKVToolNix + MKVExtractGUI2 to extract .ass from mkv
Aegissub to convert .ass to .srt and edit formatting if needed
ConvertXtoDVD to burn dvd with .mkv + .srt file

google.com softsub to dvd/mkv to dvd/etc. or softsub to hardsub which is a different method than what I listed.

you can actually watch it on your ps3 without converting it, but idk the specifics, but you need a media server thing?
i only know this cause a friend does this
