Saw tons of people who recommend it here. Somewhat decent show, got bland after L died. Decent ending I guess. But I'm confused, why did Ryuk even need to write his name in the note? Was he just bored and knew it was over for Light?

So like I though, he just decided that Light's time was up? And I might check out Code Geass if I have time.

He lost interest in Light, since he lost to Near. The only reason he came to the human world was because he was bored. That's the explanation I came up with from the Wikia page.
