Nothing beats a 4k Blu-ray with the correct system. Streaming platforms don't all offer the same feature set, some titles will support Dolby Vision but with only 5.1 Dolby Surround vs. Dolby Atmos. Or a title will support Dolby Atmos, but won't have support for Dolby Vision and vice versa.

It seems like newer titles are being promoted and featured with Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos, but not all of them. And at the end of the day, the bitrates and bandwidth aren't the same and rely on connectivity and other variable factors. Also, updates within your respective TV's and cause issues. Just recently the Sony Bravia series update disabled all Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos features within Disney+. That was rather annoying half way through the season of Andor.

If I truly enjoy a title, it will be purchased on 4k Blu-Ray.

Yes. I extract 1-1 lossless content from my physical disc and move it my NAS then watch it in full glory through a Plex media server.

For those that care, setup is ASUS RTAX88U with external SSD acting as NAS. Plex Media server setup on NVIDIA shield hardwired to router/NAS. LG C2 TV with Plex app client. This is a cheap way to create a media server vs popular off-the-shelf solutions, and it handles my highest bitrate UHD 4k lossless rip of Return of the King extended edition. Also solved an audio issue specific to LG TVs cause they cheap and didn't license DTS (doesn't even passthrough).

Having never used Plex until a couple months ago, its damn solid app/server when compared to things like Kodi.

Also, MadMardi is spot on. 4K streams have been watered down. Worse, some stream providers have locked users out of their UHD content, only providing standard UNLESS you buy their specific hardware thingy to stream through. I'll not support that business practice.

Hell yeah! I watched a solid YT Vid on setup relative to this and it blew my mind. Lots of time invested, but you have the entire contents into the NAS Media at your disposal without losing any quality. If I ever attempt this I may reach out to you for tips haha, it's a dream to go that route tbh. I'm currently running the Sony Bravia A80J (competitor to the LG C1) and love it, the 2021 OLED series are fantastic but those 2022 LG C2's are on another level. You have any issues with vertical banding?

Sorry I answered in bad faith, this is more or less what I do ;) Of course I buy the physical disc and transfer it to my Plex versus just downloading it for free ;) I've heard ebay and yard sales are the best way tho.

No, I ran some 1-20% black-gray tests and didn't see it. Always wanted to try a Sony, but the prices at purchase time where about 2x the LG. Figured I could literally burn through 2 LG's before justifying that Sony price. The new Sony QD-OLED looks insane though, king of the castle for the enthusiasts.

i still have hundreds of them stored in big boxes in the basement, if i ever need more space it's the next thing i throw away.

If i can't legally stream a movie anywhere i just download it.
