Even for a Marvel movie it's.. yikes.

The writing is bad and filled with plot holes. The standard Marvel "break up the tension with bad jokes" really really really hurts this movie more than any other Marvel project I've seen. Also ifs you're a comic fan get ready to be disappointed, it's basically just a renamed Iron Fist. The rings have absolutely nothing in common with the comics and just exist to replicate Iron Fists powers.

The acting from the supporting characters is really good, but the main cast (brother, sister, friend) is awful. Like this is the first time I've watched awkwafina in a movie, at least that I can recall, and it leaves me stumped as to how she got famous. She is really really really bad at acting.

The direction is bad.

The sound design and sound track are extremely forgettable.

The movie is honestly garbage.

Figured that woulda been the case, I stopped watching marvel movies long time ago

I got really bored and made the last minute bad decision to go watch it. Didn't help at all, I was so bored through most of the movie.

The mcu doesn’t really have anything exciting coming out other than Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. I’d say antman too but that’s still like 2 years away.

I think you just have different/bad taste in movies my friend. If you enjoyed The Suicide Squad, but did not like Shang Chi then it's 100% your taste. Shang Chi is miles head and shoulders above that disaster class of a movie Suicide squad. Literally was the worst movie I've seen all year probably lol. Shang Chi I went in expecting it to be bad, and left feeling shockingly surprised by how good of a job they did. The movie was good for what it was. And I'm not a big fan of Awkwafina but thought she was okay in it. The main guy Simu is very meh too.

Ben Kingsley was fucking amazing. Tony Leung was great too.

Everyone has their own taste obviously. Yours seems to be more on the side of jokes that don't land because they aren't funny and nobody in the theatre laughs at them, excessive vulgar words for no good reason, mediocre acting, bad story, etc. That's okay too

Nah, the movie is absolutely terrible.

Spoilers

You mention Kingsley so let's talk about that. The scene directly before the main 3 meet Kingsley there is a conversation between the 3 and the dad where the dad asks if they remember iron man 3, which they say they do. They remember all the terrorism and 10 rings stuff.

Very next scene they see Kingsley and are like "huuurrrr duurrr who are you?" Like bro what? YOU JUST HAD THE SCENE WHERE THEY SAID THEY KNOW HIM, THEN IMMEDIATELY SAY THEY DON'T?!!???!?
And then Kingsley is like explaining who he is, right after the scene where they explained who he is, and Kingsley is like "I pretended to be your father". Again what!!? They never fucking told him who they were, so how the fuck did he know? Because the movie is garbage and filled with terrible writing and directing and acting.

Also please explain to me why a group of dedicated assassin use weapons specifically designed to be non-lethal. Actually don't bother trying because I don't want to read your stupid.

The movie is bad in every way possible. If you enjoyed it cool, good for you. Congratulations you are Marvel's target audience. Lowest common denominator so they can just print money.

Edit: also awkwafina did not do a good job. She had the exact same facial expression and manner the entire fucking movie. There was literally a scene where her best friend was in anguish and pouring his heart out and she sat there with the same stupid blank "what's going on here" look on her face that she had the entire movie. It was terrible.

I don't watch marvel movies because it bores me and not worth the time to commit, and I find that it's more entertaining to read what ppl who enjoyed the movie VS the people that didn't has to say

That's how Awkwafina is lol... You either like her style or you don't, she's got it nailed down. Like I said I'm not a fan of hers either but that's how she acts.

You made some good points, but I really could care less about some of them. Also the movie Suicide Squad is literally for the lowest of the lows. So preach however and whatever you want I guess lol.
The soundtrack and action scenes of Shang Chi wasn't bad either. Not sure how you came up with that one. And again the jokes were better than The Suicide Squad. It's just what you're into. I can see a lot of Americans and some Canadians preferring Suicide Squad over Shang Chi.

That isn't an acting style, it's literally just not acting. But whatever you are not worth talking to Mr. "I don't care about all of the very real issues".
