Unless I am overlooking something from the list (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films#High-grossing_films_by_year ) 2020 will be the first year that the highest grossing movie was not an American one.
It's an oddball year to cross this dubious threshold, but how likely do you think it is that the American market will be up and running enough to retake the top spot in 2021? This seems like a sign of things to come.
This conversation is already old hat, about American companies needing to make sure their products are viable for China. We are seeing another little factor pushing things toward a future where China is the dominant market and companies are incentivized to play by their rules.
