Why did Ursula even care about marrying Prince Eric herself? If she had originally desired such a marriage, couldn't she have used her powers to transform into anything she wanted and marry any human prince in the world?

Was her relationship with Eric merely a means to an end? Was it all just a ploy to get some leverage she could use to force the King to trade his trident?

What would Ursula have done if no one had interfered with her marriage to Eric? If Ariel had just bailed out when she realized she has lost, Ursula would have been stuck in a full time human life as Mrs. Eric, right?

She did it to keep Ariel from kissing her one true love thus making her Ursula's slave.

ok, so maybe i forgot a piece of the plot regarding the contract they signed

Did Ariel not have the option of just walking away without her voice and without Eric?

Nope.

She had 3 days to kiss her true love without being able to talk iirc. Otherwise Ursula kept her as a slave.

This.

The whole thing was just a means of getting to King Triton via control over Ariel.

That being said, I feel like you're trolling the fuck out of this forum with these questions.

I don't think that's correct. I think she just kept Ariel's voice, but the king loves her singing which is why ursala wanted her voice in the first place.

You might be right about the slave thing but I'm pretty sure it's all about her singing/voice.

It's 100% only about her voice in the original tale.

In the movie she does get her voice but in the end it is about trading Ariel for her father and his trident. That would make her king of the seas or whatever they called it.
