They have no similarities. One is a fast-paced thrill ride that tells an entertaining story with wonderful and diverse characters. The other is a slow artsy film that relies on gimmicky artistic bullshit and is raved about even though the story is meh and the acting while it wasn't poorly done or anything, featured character's with a range of emotions so simple that even a first time actor could have pulled off the exact same performance that any of the leads did. I'll never understand the fascination behind movies that are artistic for the sake of being artistic. Had they taken out some of the painfully slow/awkward scenes, it would have been a much more enjoyable experience overall. I can see how people like Drive, but thinking it's anything other than mediocre-good blows my mind.

Just completely different types of movies though

As much as I liked Drive for it's artistic approach, Baby Driver was probably the best movie I saw all of last year. It's way different and very fun. The opening car chase scene alone has you laughing and instantly engages you.

Funny because that literally describes baby driver perfectly.

Yeah, I didn't understand the hype with Baby Driver. I felt they did unnecessary things to make it seem extra artsy when it wasn't needed.

Wait, what? People felt that way about Baby Driver? Like, what? What scenes in particular or parts of the acting? I'm just curious. The lead is querky and weird, but there are so many colorful supporting characters that the whole thing just comes to life perfectly and it's pretty entertaining from start to finish. Literally 50% of Drive was looking at Ryan Gosling's face as he tried to look mysterious..... that was half the fucking movie lol. I get that everyone feels differently about different thing, but nothing in Baby Driver felt even remotely artsy to me. Drive doing 5 minute car rides with awful music while two people stare at each other through awful filters is artsy bullshit.

e: Only watched Drive once when it was in theaters and I'd need to watch it again (not something I want to do) to accurately remember everything about it that pissed me off. It had a lot of potential, but I'm not sure how anyone could think scenes like that were necessary or good, or that we needed to spend an hour of a two hour movie staring at Gosling looking emotionless.

Were you on the internet when baby driver was released? You'd have one person going "omg such good movie" and everyone else in the conversation would say something along the lines of "...sure...the sound track and colouring were really neat".
