After Deadline this week revealed that Quentin Tarantino pitched a Star Trek film to JJ Abrams and Paramount, the whole thing is moving at warp speed.

Quote
The film will most certainly go where no Star Trek has gone before: Tarantino has required it to be R rated, and Paramount and Abrams agreed to that condition.

R-Rated Star Trek written by Tarantino and Mark L. Smith(writer of Revenant), directed by Tarantino.

This gon be good!

Better than JJ Abrams,

I’m not a huge Star Trek fanboy or anything. But I thought Abrams first Star Trek was good. I haven’t seen the others

Why would JJ be a recipient of the pitch? Is he a producer? Does he have some relationship to the Star Trek brand that makes him part of the process of a movie that he wouldn't be directing?

Both the ones he did were great imo. I'm very excited for this.

I’m thinking paramount owns the rights to Star Trek and Abrams is just attached to all the films, or maybe has part ownership to the rights. Something like that. He might have contracted himself in, smartly, to have say in future installments.

I would assume it will be a completely original fresh take.

The IMDb page does say Patrick Stewart will be attached to reprise his role
