Based on a series of books from Charlaine Harris.

The pilot was entertaining enough. A bit campy, seems like it isn't taking itself seriously. Might be a fun watch during the off season. Will have to wait for 1 or 2 more episodes before deciding.

Having read the book series, I enjoyed it. I just wish they would've started with Harper Connelly instead of jumping into Midnight Texas. Given that the main character of Midnight Texas started in Harper Connelly and we're going to miss a lot of his origins and development.

CBS was supposed to do a harper connelly series, and then syfy was supposedly doing it and haven't heard anything since. And then NBC jumps in with midnight texas.

It's also the same universe as the southern vampire mysteries that she did (true blood)

Quinn the WereTiger from true blood( he was never in the show, but he was a integral character in the book series) and Barry Horowitz(the mindreading bellhop) from true blood have a part in the series.

I knew they were by the same person but I was not aware they were in the same universe. The vampire in midnight seems drastically different.

Don't know if they're going to stick to the book series, but aside from the feeding psychically(he also fed on blood), he wasn't that different.

Well the psychically feeding is a pretty big difference. I don't remember exactly what true blood was like but I'm pretty sure their eyes went as unique as his either, plus his fangs were different iirc.

Either way I don't think they are going to tie the show to Trueblood at all. I doubt there will even be subtle easter eggs, but who knows.

I watched a few new off-season shows the last few days and this one was the least bad one. It has promise.
