I am a big fan of action, adventure, exploration movies. Here are some examples that I enjoyed:

- National Treasure franchise
- Da Vinci Code franchise
- The Mummy franchise
- Indiana Jones franchise

It's a cheesy/predictable genre, but they fun to watch with the kid brother.

Tipping 5fg per movie suggestion that I have not seen and decide to watch.

Off Topic:
I've been trying to track down a comedy skit/stand-up performance where someone says the "N-word" and the other person replies with something along the lines of "Oh with the hard R!"
I feel like it might be from a Key and Peele skit or something very similar. The only thing that I could google is the Childish Gambino song, but I am 100% sure that it was from a comedy sketch of some sort.

Romancing the Stone seems to fit pretty perfectly
Time Bandits is decent, probably more in the fantasy genre.
The Princes Bride is a fun adventure and a classic.
Then, of course, there is Goonies and Stand by me.
Maybe A Knight's Tale? Realy like the movie and I've seen it multiple times. But there is no "exploration" involved, it has more action/adventure elements.
Stargate, the 1994 movie with Kurt Russell is a fun and well made adventure.
Haven't seen them but there is a direct rip off of the Indiana Jones franchise called Quatermain. Looks like a poor mans version but maybe you can have fun with it.

Don't know if they fit perfectly in your categorys, but these are some movies I can think of.
