I am taking a modern German cinema class and I have to write a paper on a film not shown in class. I have seen or will watch the following films:

- The Bridge: Wicki
- The Marriage of Maria Braun: Fassbinder
- Ali, Fear eats the Soul: Fassbinder
- The lost Honor of Katharina Blum: Schoendorff/Trotta
- Kaspar Hauser: Herzog
- Tin Drum: Schloendorff
- The Boat: Petersen (maybe)
- Men: Doerrie
- Wings of Desire: Wenders
- Good Bye Lenin: Becker
- The Miracle of Bern: Wortmann
- The Experiment: Hirschbiegel
- Head-on: Akins
- The Lives of Others: v. Donnersmarck
- The White Ribbon: Haneke
- Run Lola Run: Tywker

I am looking for something popular to watch. It has to be something my professor has seen (hence it being popular) and if she hasn't seen it, I have to provide her with a copy of the film (that might be difficult).

Anyway, I really dislike two movies from this list:

Wings of Desire and Tin Drum.

Wings of Desire is incredibly boring and the scenes drag on for too long. I understand that's the point, but it's not something I want to write a paper on.

Tin Drum was disgusting to me. The whole sexual assault scene from the girl's cousin is what made me leave the room. I just had enough at that point.

I appreciate the recommendations. Thanks!

Just watch Berlin Alexanderplatz by Fassbinder
It's ten hours long so it should be incredibly easy to write about and your professor is guaranteed to have seen it.

I'm a bit curious as to why you're watching trite stuff like Lola Rennt, what aspects of that film did you talk about?

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually haven't seen that film yet. We are watching them in the order that I've listed them here.

E/ Is there a shorter film you have in mind? My paper only has to be five pages long lol.

Maybe Paris, Texas by Wenders? I didn't really love Wings of Desire myself but I love Paris, Texas. It could give yourself another chance at the director, and then you also have seen another of his work to compare it to.

The Boat - Das Boot is pretty great, you should watch it.

Don't know the english title but try "Das Leben der anderen"

Maybe some other movies Herzog made, Nosferatu, Aguirre: Der Zorn Gottes...

Victoria, haven't seen it yet but looking forward in doing so. Filmed in a complete one-shot (for real this time, not like birdman)

The Dark Valley. Made in Austria but a great movie.

Other than that:
The Edukators - Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei
Christiane F. wir Kinder vom Bahnhofszoo (a must see in my opinion)
Downfall - Untergang
Die Welle - The Wave
Funny Games (Original, I think it was made by an austrian though)

Cinema nowadays sucks in germany, you always get the same family-comedy crap over and over, just in an other setting. Now and then a movie about nazi/hitler stuff but if you want to find something interesting/creative you realy have to search a long time.

I can vouch for Christiane F as suggested by Chuzzel, it's guaranteed to have been seen by your teacher and it's a really strong film with many themes that you can discuss in your paper.
