Yea, he spent the episode on the plane, in his mind map.

He tried investigating the abominable bride case in his imagination (they got to showcase 19th century sherlock) because of the similarities of Moriatys return. That's why he concluded at the end he couldn't possibly be back, even so, he knows what his next move would be.

I'll check it out today or tomorrow.

Not going to look at this thread anymore until I do, I don't want to see any spoilers. It looked from the previews like it'd be a bit of a mess. I just hope it's entertaining, this break they're having is killing me. Season 2 was one of the best seasons of television I've ever seen. Season 3 was still good, just a little meh. I'm hoping season 4 doesn't disappoint, it looks fucking epic so far.

its simple... at start it shows you how the last episode ended , to be precise, its the end with Sherlock exile ( because he killed the 'library' guy ) and with the return of Moriarty from the dead. And then at the end, it shows exactly that when he aboard the plane going to be exiled he was under the influence of drugs, because of those drugs beings able to give him a better deduction. As searching in hes mind ' hard drive' he found similarities with a old case ( the abominable bride).. from there.. he just tried to solve the old case to find any clue how would someone would be able to survive after blowing his own brain out. In the end, he concluded that Moriarty is dead and the culprit its someone else, or better said its some kind of latent virus installed by Moriarty.

ps: you just have to watch it carefully...

I can't remember, did Sherlock actually inspect Moriarty after he shot himself? I don't see how faking your death in such a way (especially these days) would be very hard.

I don't like the way that they ended the Moriarty story, the actor did such a good job and I was really hoping he would be back.

these specials rarely ever work, it just didn't have the same feel, lost some of its charm and humour, it wasn't really gripping, just convoluted and confusing in parts

eagerly awaiting series 4

Sherlock was trying to figure out how Moriarty could still be alive. Which reminded him of the old case, the ghost bride.

If this episode is a massive foreshadow, then I think Moriarty is truly dead (as was the wife after killing her husband). And the reason why everyone's led to believe that Moriarty and bride was alive is a shadowy organisation. In Moriarty's case, he knew he was going to kill himself, so had set up a huge organisation probably just to fuck with Sherlock.
