I'll let you know that DS9, while very different from TNG, becomes massively better after the beginning episodes and is typically considered the 2nd best series. The very beginning episodes where you are introduced to Bajorans and their prophets was fairly boring, and continue to be relatively boring whenever they pop up, however most of the other episodes (Bajoran religion does indeed become a minority, even if it does stick around), are excellent. I also love how this series ends up in a darker/more serious place where things happen that doesn't necessarily fit in the "perfect" people model that other Star Trek series presents.

If you don't want to continue with DS9, Voyager is probably the one which most closely matches TNGs style, and has some great characters (Looking at you Doctor). Although it is also a little different in that Picard/Janeway have a vastly different approach to things.

Enterprise is fun in that it kind of shows how the Federation got started/why the prime directive came to be, however it doesn't have any real standout characters in my opinion. This series was decent in S1-S2 and then became EXCELLENT in S3, which was kind of a standalone storyline, and then back to good/decent in S4. I also enjoyed how it painted a slightly different picture of the Vulcan people, who we've basically judged entirely off from a few characters from other series -- Spock, Sarek, Tuvok..

I'd only watch the TOS if you become a dedicated fan. I found it highly entertaining, but if you aren't a serious fan you may be put-off.

Yeah TNG had a lot of great characters for sure.

Again, I think you'll like DS9 characters a bit more once the story gets going -- Garak and Gul Dukat are both great, Odo/Quark can have good scenes, and Bashir/O'Brien are pretty good as well.

Voyager I'd say has a weaker character line-up than the two above, but The Doctor/Torres/Paris/Neelix can be pretty good.

Character preferences is kind of a more personal thing I think though, with the exception of TNG where everyone loves the same characters.

been watching star trek since i was 6 seen all series and movies 10x over i love ds9/enterprise/voyager in that order. ds9 start watching at the end of season 2 on. after that pretty much all action and space battles plus when worf comes on the show it gets even better.give it another try. enterprise will keep you entertained aswell as voyager. although voyager is a lil ridiculous sometimes dont wanna ruin it for you but after you watch will know what i mean haha
