Just saw it two days ago in the cinema.. gets a "meh" 5/10 from me. Ending was pretty bad and the movie felt unecessarily long.

The guys I saw it were also left disappointed

but its IMDB score is high and plenty of nominations

curious to hear what you guys think about it

I love long movies. Long movies have more of a chance to be better because there's more of an option for quality story and character development.

It was a great movie. It is a great story, they developed the characters very well and put you on he edge of the seat the entire time hoping he would kill the sniper. There were plenty of scenes that hit you hard emotionally.

I liked the back and forth scenes between home stayings and tours, it seemed real and it really showed how military can be detrimental to marriages.

My only criticism is that some of the dialogue between he and his wife seemed poorly executed.

How was the ending bad? He Finally completed the mission, he went home.

Definitely up there with black hawk down and the hurt locker for me (excluding band of brothers because it's too good :) )

a spun story that lies about the guy.

the books it is based off of paints an entirely different picture of the guy.

as a standalone it's not bad but the background of it kinda ruins it for me.

guy was an amazing soldier but he fucked up huge when he was back home.

Couldn't really disagree anymore to be honest. I thought the story was average and was almost never on the edge of my seat. Plus the death of the enemy sniper was very anti-climatic in my opinion.

Far, far from being Black Hawk Down or Hurt Locker quality in my eyes

The enemy sniper was wrecking the whole time and during a heated situation, he finally pegged him......how is that anti-climatic?

it didnt end in one encounter, it took several encounters to finally out gun him. that kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering if this encounter was finally the last one.
