tl;dr
The Interview: 3/10--- I'm angry at myself for deciding to watch this movie, let alone sit through the whole thing. I knew it would suck, but how much? Well... I let curiosity get the best of me. The jokes were predictable, and James Franco was fucking insufferable.
Gone Girl: 8.5/10 --- This movie did a few things I never would have expected.
Number one - Fooled me with a bait and switch. When this movie went from a "dark, believable, and realistic trip into American news porn," to an "absurd comic book style thriller," I didn't even notice. When I finally realized I had just watched two different movies, the credits were rolling.
Number two - got me to like a movie with Tyler Perry in it. Bravo. Bravo... Also. Dark, smart, well acted, and nice to look at.
The Hobbit: Battle of five armies: 6/10 ---The hobbit is my favorite, so please forgive the biased rating. I mean. It was silly. Really,
Really silly.
The Drop: 6/10--- The dialog was awkward, and it took forever to get to the point, whatever that was. I spent the whole time looking for things to like, and ended up with a sneaking suspicion I'd seen something kind of cool, but far from amazing. Going to miss James Gandolfini
Ernest & Célestine: 8/10--- Cute, funny, well animated. See it.
The Equalizer: 4/10 --- I guess DC released Batman V Superman a little early.......... under a different title.........with new actors................ and batman is actually several crippled toddlers with a learning disabilities... Denzel doesn't equalize them, he punches their tiny crippled bodies into space. The boredom they endured to make this movie must have been stupendous. I can't even imagine how hard it was for them.. They had to MAKE this crap... I only watched it, and I wanted to jump off a bridge.
Box Trolls: 6/10 --- Box Trolls was visually stunning. Some of the characters skin tones and features seemed painted, while their clothing, and surroundings seemed meticulously detailed, which created a depth I can't really describe. It's plot was run of the mill, and most of the humor fell flat for me. Still worth a look..
