Movie Info

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her 'out of control' 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel's dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called 'The Babadook' turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he's been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son's behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real. (C) IFC

Hate the genre personally but I watched with a female friend who is a sucker for them - i enjoyed this is have to say, it is well made and acted.

Potential spoilers - ish - maybe

The ending is peculiar, I guess I'm being subjective but the movie was more about a deterioration in mental health as opposed to some sort of supernatural entity. And what we see as an audience is the manifestations projected.

Whether that's it or not idc, I saw it this way, which is why I enjoyed it. Not like the standard haunted spirits or paranormal shit.

I liked it more than I expected to, it works good as a straight drama film about a woman and her son struggling with everyday life after a tragedy, it later turns into straight up horror and that part too is pretty well done just not very scary though unfortunatly.

It's not a by the book Horror which rely on graphic violence or tons of jump scares to keep you entertained, if you're looking for something like The Conjuring don't watch this.

rates strong 6 / weak 7 in my book
