no, and im guessing you do not have 4k screen. How can you call something unnecessary when you cannot actually view it.

i have a 1440p monitor and at fullscreen the trailer does look better than 1080p.

It is not needed for the general public for home use. Just go to the movies if you want to watch something so ridiculously [sp] large.

So many people confused about 4K since TV manufacturers started marketing the term. 4K's been around since the early 2000s (2001 or 2003 I think) so nothing new really

4K isn't unnecessary at all, it all depends on what purpose it is used for. for a monitor 4K resolution has a clear advantage over 1080p or 1600p. Especially when it comes to graphics design, photography, video editing, playing PC games etc. You'll sit much closer to a 31" 4K monitor than you would a 32" TV and watch TV/movies.

When it comes to TV, you don't really need 4K until you have a large screen, really large screen. We're talking a minimum of 70 inches before the benefit of 4K start to kick in. But as some one using a 1080p projector on a 106" screen and only sitting 10 feet from the screen, I can tell you 4K isn't NEEDED, even this close to such a large screen 1080p is sharp. 4K would still significantly improve my image though.

Digital cinemas use 4K but remember the screens are like 40-60 feet wide. 50" 4K TVs are useless.

I've seen the VW1000ES project 4K images in a black masked room on a 129" screen, there's nothing that can visually compare to that experience

You need to put a 1080p TV right next to a 4k TV and watch both at the same time and you will see a difference. The pictures are more clear with more details which is due to higher pixel density.
Yes one can argue that with 1080p it is already perfectly clear which is not untrue but as I said side by side you will definitely see a difference.

You cant truly appreciate 4k unless you have a huge screen

this post made no sense in relation to what i said.

4k movies are good.

my 1440p display with it displaying 1440p and not 1080 (the norm) looks better. And 4k on my display (if it could) would look even better.

you can scale the desktop and other icons up and still view 4k videos in 4k.
