was it really that bad? I've wanted to watch it since the first trailer but since I read the poor reviews it kind of swayed my mind.

If you want to watch it then watch it. Not like watching a good movie is any less of a waste of time than a bad one.

Wasn't as bad as people said it was but it also wasn't that great. It was wonderful visually and matt damon did deliver his part quite well. Jodie foster's performance fell flat.
They focused too much on earth and the inhabitants plight and not enough on elysium which would've made the movie more rounded. So it fell a little short to me.
You'd think that being the movie was called elysium that elysium would've been represented more but it really wasn't.
I still watched it and enjoyed it somewhat, but it could've been better.

It's definitely allright and watchable if you are into sci-fi.

This entire movie could have been avoided with a simple emergancy shut off button in the factory. Or by putting a few medbeds on earth. Its a terrible movie with mediocre acting and dialogue that is more stale than year old puffed wheat.

Fairly advanced civilization - has "cure all" that can literally revive someone from death, or at least the very brink, without so much as a scar - dont have safety buttons in factories.

And that list of citizens that was literally just "all people on earth / all people on elysium" are you fucking kidding me?

Build up this entire story line around this virtual paradise in space - shows it for 5 minutes.

Also wasn't the guys brain that was downloaded encrypted or something silly?

But that was the point, the elite couldn't give a shit about the others. Like the western countries about working class in asia and africa.
The working class couldn't be immortal, population would rapidly increase by billions and that wouldn't work.

It's one of those movies you watch once but you will not watch again it until another 10-20 years later.

No, it was dissapointing.... Worth the watch to find out yourself though.

Also, I wish there was more of a focus on his weaponry.....I originally thought that was going to be huge in the movie but it really wasn't.
