What's up with the last commercial break like in Colbert report?
"We'll be right back!" just to see 10 seconds of "That's it for tonight!". Is it to lure suckers that haven't watched series before to stay for the commercials? Seems pretty absurd.

I wouldn't know. I haven't had cable for 5 years.

Me neither but I don't think that's something you know by owning cable.

Would it matter if even one person saw it? You think the companies care if you stay for 10 minutes or not? They are going to do it, regardless...

Commercials cost shitload and the payers choose when it's aired, right? I'd assume they would want some info on how many people are watching at that time before paying like crazy.

They purchase their spot months in advance, they pay based on the time the commercial airs, not when in a show it will air.

Primetime ads (7pm-11pm) are most expensive, etc etc

I'd say that it's to increase the chances that the viewer watches the next show on that channel after Colbert.

If Colbert did a sign off/credit roll at 7:25, people would be more likely to change the channel. By moving the sign off closer to the start of the next show at 7:30, people have less time to decide to change the channel before the opening of the next show starts. That opening might be enough to keep their attention.
