Falling Skies is the most underrated show currently airing

Even though Falling Skies isn't the best show, and probably isn't even top 5 for most, I feel like it is still underrated. It seems to get no attention whatsoever, and I'm not talking about just in this forum but also from social media in general. Shows that are much worse than Falling Skies get much more attention than it does. I think it should be regarded as one of the top 10 shows at least.

It might not have the same quality writing as Breaking Bad or the same kind of freedoms as shows on premium channels, but it is a cut above all the "one-case-per-episode" series. It may lack the gusto to kill off main characters, but it has other ways of introducing new elements to keep the show fresh. I think one of the best things about it is that it keeps improving as it goes. They put the money into making the effects good enough. Yea some of the kid actors are kinda crappy, but that's common wherever you look. There are enough good points that this show is still captivates me more than most others.

Does anyone else agree it seems underrated? Can anyone who is caught up with the show have any reasons why they think it deserves to get so little attention as it does?

The only issue I have with falling skies is that the first season, they never revealed the initial invasion and how humanity reacted and how humanity got to where it was.
They did this again at the end of season 2 and we didn't see that almost year when they met the new aliens.

The problem is that scifi shows never get the coverage they deserve. Scifi dramas? pft. Most people have no idea what they are and how to find them.
Take Defiance, some people think it's mediocre. But I actually enjoy it, even if the game kind of pisses me off.
If you go back, people said the same about firefly even though firefly is regarded as a very decent show despite the occasional dissenter.
I'm just hoping we can see more of them because the genre hardly gets representation and if it does, it's often short lived.

I see your point about sci-fi in general. The fantasy genre got the doors kicked in when the LOTR movies raked in big bucks. That paved the way for GOT to be accepted in a way that it could not have been in 1995. Perhaps it has been too long since a sci-fi broke through. ET and Star Wars episodes 4-6 were too long ago. Episodes 1-3 probably hurt the perception of the genre and none of the Star Trek movies were anything special. Firefly may have been a perfect "real sci-fi" show, but it was mishandled by Fox. We need a sci-fi blockbuster to open the door I guess.

As it happens, I disagree with your point about the missing time in Falling Skies. The lack of knowing exactly what happens helps setup the mystery element that the audience gets to "uncover" that season. By the time we uncover it, we end up wrapped up in a new mystery that will keep us watching next season.

Maybe they wouldn't be so underrated if it didn't take a whole year to come out with less than a dozen episodes.... when so many EQUALLY good shows with 15+ episodes, only on haitus for 4-5 months.

Having a year break kills the ratings for a show, and is pointless.. they can do everything they need within 6 months.

I like Falling Skies, it's one of few tv shows I follow, but as far as most underrated goes, in my opinion, that distinction belongs to Justified.

Falling Skies season 2 finale disappointed me greatly, but will still watch season 3.

Is Falling Skies underrated? I didn't care for the first season and in general have been disappointed in the Sci-Fi genre in general since Caprica was canceled. Defiance has a few good characters and a few decent stories in the first season, but good god some of the writing is so bad and some of the characters are just too wooden where it detracts from the show. Maybe I'll give Falling Skies a second chance, I've changed my mind on a television show before.

What? Every show produces one season per calendar year.

10 episodes per season is the same amount as Game of Thrones, because both shows are expensive.
