New cop drama on AMC that aired the 18th set in detroit.

Watching the previews with Lennie James and Mark Strong got me a little excited about the show, both actors I enjoy watching since they play more serious, dark roles seemed to fit right in to the theme.

It has a Southland, The Wire type vibe to it, the pilot starts off with a good lead in to the story and leaves you with questions.

Anyone else seen the premiere as well? Thoughts?

I gave it a shot since it basically had the best time slot of any premier (right after Breaking Bad).

It definitely has a "The Wire" vibe to it, but it's no The Wire. There were too many hollywood-ish one liners that feel very contrived, and are not how people actually talk in real life. That opening scene was full of them. The dialogue in general feels pretty stale. Plus that dark brooding mysterious archetype of a main character just annoys me.

The plot itself was interesting, gives enough to satisfy you, and omits enough to keep you wondering. You want to know more about Ziggy's operation, and just how involved the dead cop's partner is. So I'll give it a few more episodes just to try it out. But I don't see it becoming the next big thing.

True enough, hopefully they'll respond to it and make it less stereotypical, and by the numbers, it is the pilot after all, and their will be more episodes to flesh it out. The brooding will hopefully be justified, and allow for more growth; a reverse breaking bad or a Vic Mackey.
