If intelligent beings (alien or terrestrial) try to overtake humanity, they can watch our post-apocalyptic shows to see all the ways that humans may try to survive. This gives them a chance to develop counters for all of it.

For hundreds of years, creative people have been writing stories about humanity in survival situations. The most popular ones have been analyzed and critiqued. People try to pick out what's unrealistic about the story and improve on it. Each generation tries to come up with better and better stories.

While some sci-fi (such as Star Trek) may be a self-fulfilling prophecy, other stories might be the exact opposite. For example, take H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds. Alien invaders that study us in preparation for an invasion might come across that story, and as a result be less likely to overlook the microscopic bacteria in the atmosphere that could be dangerous to their bodies.

If there's an alien civilization with the technology to travel light years all the way to Earth, observe us without us noticing and sending instant feedback to their distant home planet, it really won't matter if they know our weaknesses or not.

What I do think could be worrying is sending radio signals or any other kind of signal to outer space. If there does happen to be an alien civilization outher that discovers these signals, they could find us... and if they had the technology to do that then we're pretty much at their mercy.

A civilization like that would certainly be the favorites against humanity, but long odds aren't impossible. Plus, I'm not just talking about aliens. It could be robots we built, that's another common post-apocalyptic theme these days.

If they are so smart that they can warp space, use energy-based vehicles/alter their bodies or sumtn, then... -||- with zarkadon.

Most post-apocalyptic are just piled cliches from action films and greek plays pretty much. Very little creativity, that's just how they are portraited in movies so they can fit in the artform very conventional way. Humans or an individual figuring out a way to beat invasion is just very hollywoodian thing.

Seriously, even the most retarded deafblind alien from their species think this would be obvious thing about visiting other eco-systems. :)

Yes, big showdowns with robots or aliens is a very Hollywood concept. Trillions of species have gone extinct in this world, and it has always been by something boring like a gradual climate change, slower breeding, etc. In most cases it's not simple enough to link to one single factor. We haven't been around as long as a large chunk of those species', nor are we a more stable life form than most species out there now. We (humans) have been around for a tiny fraction of the time that life has been on this planet, what makes you think we'll get the cool thing? That's just kind of arrogant.

I think if any of the post-apocalyptic scenarios occur that were portrayed in a movie, it would be nuclear fallout. Why worry about robots/aliens/zombies when we are our own worst enemies?

While I agree with what you're saying, we're also the first life form to be this intelligent and self-aware on the planet.

Yes, any post-apocalyptic scenario where humans are targeted by an intelligent species is a very Hollywood concept. But, coincidentally, this just happens to be the movie and TV subforum.

Obviously this stuff isn't going to happen in real life. But since this theme is very popular in movies nowadays, there must be some interest in it by some people in the world.

I think it would be cool if the next alien-invasion movie (a comedy perhaps) included aliens who had watched previous alien invasion movies.
