Yes, was actually a pretty good movie. Can't wait until the rest of the prequel trilogy comes out and then the extended versions.
Most people going into it that complained about it are doing so from a point where they've already had access to the entire trilogy and can gauge the entire series as a whole.
They forget how they felt when the fellowship first ended and they had to wait what felt like forever for the next movie, and then again at the end of two towers when they had to wait for the return of the king.
When the fellowship first came out, there was similar pissing and moaning. About the pacing and the direction. But when you look at them now, they were absolutely stunning.
To this day people complain about the length, but I felt that any shorter and the films would've been terrible.
I have a feeling when the prequel trilogy is completed and the extended versions are available, people will have a different opinion.
Another problem is people are unfamiliar with the source material. Fellowship, two towers and return of the king were on a completely different level than the hobbit and the following stories.
The hobbit is a children's book, and they did a damn good job keeping to the source material while providing an avenue for those not of the target audience for the book.
They also forget that the movies are going to be based on the hobbit and the appendices, the original intent for the hobbit was a two part film and was later turned into a trilogy.
The third film is obviously going to have to tie into the fellowship quite well and with the actors reprising their roles, I can see it turning out great.
you had me sold at those two points. if they're not complaining that it's too long, then they are complaining that it is too short. that's what she said

and the fact that they follow the book so well is remarkable, not enough movies today are like that. they always have to cut a bunch of shit out for whatever reason and only the individuals who have read the book truly understand what's happening.
looks like i'll be watching the hobbit tonight. ty
