It's actual designation is "North American" It's a joint effort between Muse Entertainment Enterprises(CA) and Zodiak USA production companies.
Also appears the the SyFy executives have more pull than the Space channel and end up determining whether a show sinks or swims.
Take the stargate franchise for example. Was another joint effort that the syfy channel pretty much sank.
