Were you not paying attention? he lunged for his gun on the counter(i've seen some people argue that he went for the liquor, which doesn't really matter because they were in the same location and rick reacted as if the man was a threat, which the atmosphere was leading to) . He said "Nebraska" laughed and then went for the gun and got shot for it.

Those 2 guys at the bar were a threat, it was blatantly obvious. They would've tried to steal the farm. Rick did the right thing by killing them. He wasn't just protecting himself, he was protecting everyone else at the farm. Do you think you would want everyone at the farm getting held hostage and the women raped? HELL NO.

I like how Rick handled that.

Philly guy said "Get a look of these guys" and then Rick shot him. When Rick pulled his gun the guy went for it, not before though.

The guys had no reason to kill them (Then) because they wouldn't have found the farm. Rick shot them under the assumption they would harm their group if allowed to go free.

Not to mention the build up. It's obvious the producers wanted us to understand they were a threat.
