He turns things into walkers, and it's his spear throwing skills you are questioning?
Those two things aren't really connected, but okay. Just posting my thoughts. I kind of laughed when he grabs a spear, walks past the fire, sticks his left arm out for balance and launches a S.A.M at the dragon. Why not just chuck spears at the crew stuck on the island - not like they can go anywhere and the NK could hit them no problem. He threw an ice spear and the dragon literally exploded into flames.

The idea of waiting until a tired Gendry, who isn't used to long walks, runs back the distance of what seems like a day-long march (looking at how it changed from day to night and back) without any food, rest or water, sends a raven all the way to Dragonstone (which is ridiculously far) and wait for Dany to fly all that distance to their location... it's not something I'd really lable as "feasible".
They'd have to wait like a week without any food or water, and with a horde of zombies waiting next to them.
I agree with you, a lot of plot holes. Given the situation, this was the only thing I could think of that would allow the majority of the group to escape. A more logical conclusion would be they all die or JS is taken prisoner and converted into a walker that can pass through the wall without concern of the magic.
Then again, this is a show about dragons, undead armies, magical resurrections and what not. I'll just laugh off the Brett Farve ice spear scene and enjoy the show. This season has been pretty damn good, minus the time jumps and everyone wearing Enigma to tele around.
