Comedy
"Louie" FX series, starring Louis CK, is hilarious and comes at you from every angle.
ANYTHING Louis CK says or does is funnier than anything else. The man's a comedic genius. George Carlin for the 21st century.

Action/Drama
"Breaking Bad" has probably already been mentioned 1000 times, but it's the most intense drama on TV, plenty of action.
"Deadwood" is an HBO series that was also extremely good.
"Grindhouse: Planet Terror & Deathproof" are amazing action films. QT doesn't disappoint.
"The Score" and "Equilibrium" deserve mention here as good action films too.

If you consider martial arts films as action, "Ong Bak 1, 2 & (to a lesser extent) 3" are good. "Ip Man" is amazing. I could recommend 30+ more excellent martial arts films but I'm trying not to overdo it here.

Zombies
"28 Days/Weeks Later" are pretty good, but I'm sure they've been mentioned more times than Breaking Bad has...
If you like horribly made zombie B movies as much as I do, "I Eat Your Skin," made in 1964, is a super obscure title you might get a kick out of. I doubt any but the most devoted zombie fans have even heard of it. I'll warn you, this one's just for the zombie aficionados to fill out their movie lists... it is delightfully stupid and horribly made.

Horror
Roman Polanski freaks me out. "Repulsion" and "Rosemary's Baby" both earn top honors.
"House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects" are two of my favorites.
For a mix of horror, comedy, and sheer entertainment, watch Gary Busey in "The Gingerdead Man"... oh, the 80's...

Sci-Fi
If you haven't seen Kubrick's "2001: A Space Oddyssey," watch this before the others. Matter of fact, just google "Stanley Kubrick filmography," they're all good.
The first season of "The Twilight Zone" has some really good episodes.
"Inception" is another one of those movies that you just have to watch.
"The Fifth Element" and "12 Monkeys" are legendary.

I tried not to go overboard too much, but I am a self-proclaimed cinephile. I hope there's at least a couple in there you haven't seen yet. If you want more just comment "ISO more film recommendations" if you decide to send me some fg for putting this awesome list together for you ;)
