The question here is: How much of that decision was made by Sansa and how much by Baelish?
Baelish is not going to walk the KotV into the first wave, even if he knows he will win. This is not really 'their battle'. No, he's very shrewd. He's going to let the Northeners beat each other up, then swoop in easily at the end and claim victory with as few losses as possible to his own. Exactly how Tywin did it at the end of Robert's war and again at the Blackwater.
