It was a direct result of Barry making the wormhole, had nothing to do with eddie.
Barry made a portal to the past, this portal was sustained by the generator, the power was cut and caused the portal to close. It wasn't until eddie shot himself, did eobard vanish and the portal reopen and expand creating the singularity above the city, all the while sucking his body in along with the rest of the city.
When Eddie killed himself, Eobard ceased to exist, that means that Eobard never stole Wells' identity, the particle accelerator would have been created in 2020 like it was supposed to be before eobard interfered with the timeline. Nora would still be alive, The Flash would not exist yet. This timeline had become one giant paradox, and just like how it happened in Flashpoint, the world began to be devoured.
While not specifically spelled out for audiences, this is the accepted theory because it literally happened after he shot himself. To say it had nothing to do with him with the evidence that is there is just
So yes it had everything to do with eddie.
That's why the analogy works. That's why there was a time remnant of eobard.
