i found a great analogy/explanation of Eobard survivial on reddit,

It's interesting that they chose to introduce a time remnant for eobard thawne instead of using earth 2. Probably means they have plans for earth 2 eddie and eobard.

Yes it did.... the singularity was a visual representation for the viewer of the paradox that occurred when eddie shot himself. He essentially nullified that timeline.
The analogy fits perfect to what happened when barry and firestorm stopped the timeline from destroying itself.

We're probably going to see more and more paradoxes due to the events that transpired. Plus with cisco making an appearance on legends of tomorrow, it'll probably tie into that.
