Better late than never. Though it's going to be interesting to see how the dynamic between certain characters with fet being the one to dispatch eph's friend with that change in the story (the whole gas station scene didn't happen in the books) I suppose it was added to bring the hacker into the fold (she was never in the book either) and to close the chapter on sam wise)

He was attacked by the pilot and infected. They pretty much studied him up until he completely turned.

I just read an interview and they said that they're going to do the same as they did with the walking dead.
Some major plot points will be the same, as we have seen, some will change, some will be omitted and the order will be changed.

I'm hoping they change the origin from the books, while interesting in the grand scheme of things, it completely ignores the pathology and development and throws a curve ball at you that doesn't really work.
