Even though he didn't have as much screen time as other characters his presence in the show represented the most glaring fallacy of Walter's actions. His pride. He had friends and family that could have helped him. He did not Need to hurt people. Which is also why I didn't really get into his character development and macho persona. His dialogue with supposed 'drug lords and traffickers' was comical and would have most assuredly ended with a 'missing persons' file.

Hank also gives the show a much needed realization of the cost of the 'action' that is so exciting and captivating to watch. Whether that be the emotional struggle law enforcement face when confronted with indiscriminate violence (such as the explosive device strapped to Tortoise) or the physical - the rehabilitation period after being shot and learning to walk again.

All things considered Hank was one of the few characters in the show who was not looking for a winning ticket. Not looking to cash in or lost in his own narcissism or self deprecating plight. He cared about his family and worked hard at his job.

Hank was indisputably the most mature character in the show.

If every character in the show was a real-life person, Hank would definitely be my favorite. Virtually every other character in the show, except maybe Walt Jr., is a terrible person.

You'd be amazed how many women I know that took her side on anything.
