They have Glenn, Daryl and Michonne. It can easily be assumed the Alexandrians would be coming to find them.

The saviors didn't think they were coming to find their 4 missing people. The saviors knew they were going to hilltop.

Of course we know they weren't going to find them. But they assumed they would be out and about. It can be assumed where they caught Daryl and company is the same direction as hilltop. And once they find them out and about they cut them off in all directions. How else did they capture Eugene so easily as well? Once they had them out they surrounded every path. Probably couldn't have made it back to Alexandria if they tried either.

That's not how I remember it. I remember it as the RV kept trying take different roundabout routes to Hilltop and the Saviors had those paths blocked. If the RV had turned around and went away from Hilltop, they could have avoided the confrontation. I'd like to hear more opinions on that as well, because I could be remembering it wrong.

the only fantastical aspect of the episode was how our group conveniently met the Saviours in perfect stopping order.

As someone a couple pages back stated, the events were no less feasible than Genghis khan's feats. Stranger things have happened...
We are to assume the Saviours have a Lot of people, and a Lot of equipment. Probably walky-talkies, among possible other things. There were, I believe, only 4(?) roads they could have taken that would have been the best route. The Saviours were expecting a retaliation/venture to find and rescue their captured friends, and they basically backed them into a corner.


As you mentioned, perhaps Dwight/someone got away and mentioned about the attack. Or perhaps when the Saviour girl had captured maggie and carol, she had recounted some information about the alexandrians over her walky-talkie to her friends, and then them back to their base. Afterall, there was a lot that we didnt see in that episode.


And in response to the guy that didnt understand how it's possible for a large group of people to band together, you must understand that it is a less volatile world they currently inhabit. Far easier to safely congregate and settle. As it is now evident that there are multiple settlements. The Saviours may be one humongous base camp; which is very possible, but it's likely they are merely a big base camp; with a lot of surrounding settlements -- for example, the group at the big Satellite dish.
And of course when you take into account how a group with such aggressive control tactics functions, it's entirely possible for it to grow exponentially, given the fact that there ARE a lot of people to control, as we now know.

I don't see how anyone could think this.

Rick did not know where his 4 friends were. He had no reason to think they were in any particular trouble (more than the old "we havent seen them for a couple days" which is common in their world). Even if Saviors thought that Rick was looking for them, there's no reason they would expect him to look in that specific direction. They knew he was coming that way and right when he would get there.

I'm tempted to comb back over the show to find evidence of this, but I'm pretty sure the Saviors made it clear to Rick from the beginning that they knew he was going to Hilltop.



These are logical connections and if the show fills them in later I'll be satisfied.


Ya know what's even more feasible? Someone at Hilltop is playing both sides. From Rick's pov, you should take into consideration the most likely scenario

The minute you realize they know you are going to Hilltop, you see that Maggie is not going to get the help she needs so The Prime Directive has to be abandoned.

I really dont believe there is a traitor.
They didnt know that rick was going to be going on foot through the forest either, nobody tipped them off, but they were there, ready. It was just a fantastic turn of events that happened like that.

I don't believe there is either, but that's what I think Rick should believe based on his position. They go through the Wolves attack, Daryl comes back after his run-in with Dwight and still no Saviors show up. Then you invite Jesus into your camp, who is sneaky as fuck, and next thing you know the Saviors know right where you are. The coincidence is not something that Rick should buy.

Hate to say it, but as soon as the Saviors stopped him on the road he should have given up on Hilltop and drove away. If Maggie dies to whatever she's got, then that's the way it has to be. The dream of getting her to Hilltop was shot.

i think the big hitting dramatic impact of this episode was that Rick was SO sure of themselves, and to be checked at every turn really exacerbated the fact that he is anything but in control. Hence why he was so devasted in the end. really powerful stuff
