Saw a little article or something on some of the quotes and references they've been making to scenes from earlier seasons. I liked this:

In the first season the old King, Robert Baratheon, told Cersei: “Only a fool would meet the Dothraki in an open field.”

Although they did have help from a dragon, I really enjoyed that battle scene (as did everyone else right?)

Also forgot to say, I really disliked the cave scene. It seemed way too conveniently written in to help Jon convince Daenerys , all of these markings just happen to be there and Jon is able to easily interpret them to reinforce his story. I was thinking the writers got lazy on that one and just slapped some ancient cave drawings into the show to progress things

It did seem a bit cheesy but you also have to remember the stories Jon has heard since joining the Wall. It doesn't take a smart person to put a picture of a dragon, sun, and white walkers together especially for Jon.

I do wish they spent a little more time but even then I feel it would have turned out worse.

Some of those symbols were not possible for Jon to know, the theory that he made those is a tad ridiculous at this point.

e: I'm actually glad the writings were there... the "Children of the Forest" arc is not one that I find all that interesting and they gave a good amount of history in about 1-2 minutes.

Yeah I guess, it just felt like lazy and too convenient lol.

"Don't believe all of this weird shit I'm telling you? Well here's an ancient cave that nobody has seen for thousands of years right on the island where you're staying! And better yet, there's ancient writings that will backup my crazy stories! Let me interpret them for you to even further reinforce my point"

Well we should have expected some watered down stuff here and there with them being so far ahead of the books now. GRRM gave them the broad strokes but they still have to fill in the gaps and they just arent as good as he is. Its to be expected really.
