The producers said that the bullet was a ricochet and it grazed the side of Carl's eye socket. There a doctor on scene to patch him up. Skin, muscles, and bone can be saved. But the eye can not be regrown.

Actually, they said the bullet struck just above the cheekbone, shattering it, deflecting the bullet away but the bone shards shredded the eye.

Actually, the bullet split open when hitting another bullet and a piece of the bullet shredded through his eye
