Atmospheric horror can actually be terrifying, jump scares are misnamed and used to trick the lowest common denominator into thinking a bad movie is actually scary. Getting startled is a biological reaction, getting scared is a psychological one.
Great horror can utilize both for extreme effect.
The fact that he doesn't appreciate one of the best movies ever made and also thinks the conjuring is the scariest movie of all time is pretty much all you need to know
Are you one of those pontificating millennial ding dongs who likes to pretend they know what they talking about?
Kid I appreciate a classic film like alien and can see how that would be scary to a child who wets his pants at night. Maybe back 40 years ago that was the only scary movie out so I can see how people would try to defend it. But to compare it to an evolved scary of today is straight up retarded. The Industry evolved over time this isn't 1979 anymore also When I say scary I don't mean I have to check under my bed for a boogie monster every night I mean it gives a jump or a feeling of fear which is what a scary movie is supposed to invoke.
Watching Alien I thought great classic sci-fi but not for its horror elements. When I see the so called scary atmospheric you are referring I find myself getting bored looking at the watch and having to fast forward otherwise I feel like I am going to fall asleep. The jump scares had me laughing its actually unwatchable anymore. The dinky cgi models look like they were made by 12 year olds.
I sincerely wish you speedy recovery for thinking that Alien is in top scariest movies. God bless and hope you don't hold your moms hand when you crossing the road its a scary world out there.
