Counterculture =/= mainstream.

No, punk is promoting their own culture and is "against" anti establishment. Being mainstream or.....making a living has nothing to do with anti establishment.

Because being popular doesn't exclude you from the genre you're categorized in or the music you play.

Besides, with the thousands and thousands of punk bands through the years, not all of them sing about the same topics, and not all of them are about anti establishment.

The essence of punk is being anti-establishment.

The music is secondary.
