There were some weird random uninspired attempts to have emotional impact. For example (spoilers ahead btw), why did they put so much emphasis on the intern trapped underneath the rubble? They didn't take a second at all to develop her character (I think she was introduced in that scene), yet that's a segment they panned to repeatedly in order to try and help us feel the tension that Morpheus felt. They failed on that front, IMO.
It's strange how conflicted Superman was with killing Zod at the end, when he basically already had a ton of blood on his hands. It seems like he put no effort in trying to steer the fight away from civilian zones, and hundreds of people must have died just from the sheer damage they were causing. They blew up the entire ISS for crying out loud! There's a bunch of people working on that.
This may be purely a matter of personal taste, but does anyone ever enjoy those flying-around-Superman fights? Like the one in Matrix 3 with Neo vs Smith in the abandoned Earth, or the Cloud vs Sephiroth one in Advent Children. I have never once been entertained by one of those, and I can't personally fathom why people insist on doing those. I feel no tension at all in those kinds of scenes, even when the fate of the world is involved (which it often is in those kinds of fights). I don't understand who has the upper hand, or what particularly the hero is struggling with to gain an advantage in the fight, or anything like that. It's just two objects colliding with each other over and over again, and I'm waiting to hear the results of the winner afterwards. It has about as much tension involved as missing the big game and hearing the score afterwards, IMO.
That was a bit weird but I guess they wanted to make that kind of scene with random people, to show how massive action and destruction affects the people on root and thought might as well use these then. If the extended cut of this is four hours this might feel more natural.
Wasn't he emotional because he just killed the last one of his species
Imo it had some interesting moments. Them going high and camera angle playing with gravitylesness.
