Seriously, freeing them is the worst idea ever. Any plan would have been better than that.

It wasn't even their option to free them. It was "a matter of when."

Rick's plan is still the best one.

They could have destroyed the road entirely to prevent them from ever getting out.
They could have built a trench or something to trap them and burn them.
They could put more stuff to barricade them in.
They could just fill a car with napalm and drive it in and blow it up.
They could build some kind of contraption to kill them as they try to walk out like a an excavator moving back and forth with spikes attached to it.
They could get a few front-end loaders, build them up with armor, and run over the zombies.

Wondering if the very first one was an option.
Really depends on their resources and time of course.

Trench.. maybe.. depends on time.

More stuff to barricade would be nice to extend the clock but not a real solution.
I don't think they have napalm.
Contraption probably won't last for 20000 zombies.
Running over 20000 zombies will just get your truck stuck.

I missed the last 5 or so episodes of season 5, so don't want to watch this season until I catch up.

Anyone know where these episodes can be watched? AMC used to have them up, but now they only have S6E1 up.

You have to think of supplies used as well. If Rick has a plan which wastes virtually no supplies but a little gas and playing then that is one that should surely be utilized. Given that the truck gave way anyway, unexpectededly, none of your options would have worked because it was impromptu at that point. His plan would have worked as well, if it weren't for...

your ideas suck and none of them would have worked.... the only thing stopping them was the truck that was blocking the path and nothing to egg them on... when that collapsed the noise would make em all towards that and head into the road right at alexandria

They could have lead the Zombies to the other side of that pit and then set up some kind of trap and have them walk off the cliff and fall to their deaths, they're no smarter than lemmings really. And then if the bodies pile up to much it would be easier to control that pile size by burning it down.

They have a bunch of construction equipment already, you saw it in season 5. And there's probably a ton of abandoned equipment around the quarry.

They can make napalm or some other substance that will burn easily, or even some dry wood and newspapers would work. Hell, they could just bury them with rocks or concrete.

Not walls, but a truck or something or a big pile of dirt.

Terrorists in the middle east do it all the time, and with little resources. Why can't people with a large abundance of resources do it?

It's powered with gas, and there's a lot of gas around from the hundreds of thousands of abandoned cars in the area.

Those things run all day lifting and moving thousands of tons of dirt. I'm pretty sure 3 or 4 of them is enough to kill 20,000 zombies.
