He also lied about Jon and Joffrey. Obviously he was in the right but that just goes to show how easy it is to justify dishonorable acts.
He rebelled against a man who murdered his oldest brother and his father, and then he believed at the time that his sister was taken hostage by the same family. They betrayed him first and he acted accordingly. Even had he lost the war, it'd be impossible to see those actions as traitorous or dishonorable. He did lie about Jon, but it was the dying wish of his sister for him to do so. It's not as though it was a lie he concocted because of something bad he did. He was asked to do something that meant bringing shame and dishonor to his name, even though he had done nothing wrong, and that's probably the most honorable shit he ever did, and the man died because of his fucking honor lol. Ned is like the epitome of goodness though, which is why he died a fools death. I would never expect anyone to hold a candle to him in terms of honor or fairness.
