They wouldn't spend all this character development and pushing the group into acceptance for them to go to war with each other.
obviously since you read the comics you know more than me, but I disagree with your bolded statement. Things going bad could still be consistent with the narrative the show has presented so far.
The group has been offered the possibility of acceptance. I feel like they've considered it, taken some aspects of it and rejected others. If we look at the whole group and average it out, I'd say they are about 60% into Alexandria acceptance. There's still plenty of room for it to go either way.
Gabriel's statement + Carol's stealing + Aiden's death + Rick vs wifebeater + whatever secret Deanna hasn't told them about the exiled people = could still easily add up to this new relationship souring. I don't think it will go sour because people say that isn't what happens in the comics, but just based on what has happened in the show it would still be in the realm of reasonability.
