In the Telltale game, it's one of the main plot points. The show is catching up to the comic, and they're at Alexandria for a long ass time. Not sure if the show will go into it, but it might because it actually snows in DC.

Caught up with all you fanatics... woot... glad I did.
Rick is getting "DARK", him and Carol make a good pair, but that also includes Daryl.
I have not read anything about this show, but from what I have seen in the episodes,
we can see the "girl" stole "Ricks" gun outside of the fence... it is simple in some ways,
she still feels like an outsider, she appeared in the window in the house OUTSIDE of the
boundary before they entered.
Outside of above... we can see the moronic two-some-runners trying to make a come-back
in the future episodes against the new people... since they have the upper advantage of
knowing the area, will they get one of them back, or will Ricks family kick their ass more
and get those two killed off... there are many situations to look forward too... and I can
not wait... :D
It's only taken them 5 seasons to develop Rick into how he should have been once the group left Atlanta and the CDC. I forget where, but I read someone else saying that was one of the downsides to having Shane alive for so long. There was a person to make decisions at the expense of others besides Rick.
Rick should have been burdened with leadership sooner. It would have made the council at the prison and Lori's death have more impact. The books have Rick losing it and becoming more and more grim a lot sooner. The Governor cutting off his hand didn't help either.
