Am I anti-women or am I anti-women dialogue that sounds like it was written by a BA degree dropout? Spoilers: it's the second one. It's so fuckin boring treating all the male characters like retarded simps (her dad towards the end of ep 1 - then again he acts like a retard in general most of ep 1) or retarded chauvinistic stereotypes (everyone else). Her mom carrying on about how women are only good for their wombs LMAO. It's such a boring medieval trope and it's so overdone in the first episode - especially considering that the first episode opens with the a woman being considered for the throne as a SERIOUS option. Why is she even being considered if it's such a pipe dream? If women are such a joke then dont bother with the whole charade and make Viserys the successor lol.
All we learn about her competence in ep 1 that's contrary to their accusations is that she rides dragons and is theoretically smart because she regurgitates some history from a book lol. She doesnt win her favor for any other reason than there are no good options. Her brother dies, the king's brother is a total douche that should probably be put down like a rabid dog, and nobody else has any real claim to the throne (that we know so far). I'm cool with a woman being the focal point. I'm not cool with them writing every other character to say "noooo you cant just be queen that would be craaaaaazy" and then she becomes queen for no good reason. It's fucking boring.
There are so many good examples of films or shows that portray strong women that dont spend more than a single line of dialogue talking about how a character "cant" or "shouldnt" do something. Show the audience, dont just tell them. You want a good example? La Femme Nikita. MC in that movie is fucking ruthless and manipulative and brutal. Every time a male character opens their mouth about how she's a girl they get annihilated almost immediately.
The show is just crutching on the GOT legacy + titties + gore. So far it's forgettable/mid. I'm happy to be proven wrong as the show develops but if ep 1 is an indicator for how the rest of the show will go we're in for a really underwhelming ride.
