Not even remotely....
I see where he's coming from, and depending on the topic, I agree with him. Some things are just fact, and it doesn't matter if a well-informed person is arguing on behalf of the non-factual thing, while an idiot is arguing on behalf of facts, I'm going to side with the facts regardless. When dealing with something like media, movies, television, games etc.. it's all opinionated, but how well you defend your opinion, is what determines whether or not you're right, at least imo. X was good, because I liked it, is not a compelling argument, and it's not going to sway my opinion. If you come in and give a detailed explanation of what was done well, vs what was done poorly, and weigh those pros and cons to show that the movie was worth seeing or not worth seeing, I'd be more likely to go see or not go see the movie, based off that. Obviously my own opinion is generally the most important factor, since I am fairly confident in my first take opinion of things, which is formed by a number of components, the studio, director, type of film, etc.. (although I have been wrong in the past, Baby Driver being a recent example of something I thought looked horrible by the previews.)
The thing is anyone who has an actual life wouldn't care to elaborate on why they thought a movie was good. Why do I care to try and convince someone over the internet movie xyz was outstanding?
