The whole thing about Donna was to show how desperate she is to get out of law. She was banking on that device to give her something else to do on the daily, keep her busy enough to leave the firm and not want to go back. That's why she didn't care about how much $ the settlement was for, she just wanted a change. If you noticed toward the end of the episode she told Harvey she wanted out - or something like that. I think they are leading up to Donna seriously leaving next season.

Also, I think it's cause she might be in love with Harvey. And can't stand it anymore.
what...she clearly was upset how nobody views her as anything more than harvey's secretary which was established when she went to go pitch the device.
its clear shes searching for more and that made her question everything about herself. settling meant to her that she wasnt as good as she thought.
