Absolutely it's way too complicated to be turned into a movie. Well at least the ones that Frank Herbert wrote and not the fan fiction that his son and that other guy wrote. I think a tv series could work as a drama as long as they keep mythological and political tones in it. Gotta have both imo. Ecology was another important aspect to the book but I don't see a good way to incorporate that.

When I mean mythological I don't mean there was really anything god like the book but rather the religious undertones like how Paul had play as this messiah to pretty much ensure his survival and for the fremen to fight his war for him.

The mini series was ok I think. The silly costumes make it hard to take seriously. It's like the mini series got the story down a lot better but didn't have the feel the book had but the movie got the tone right but totally fucked up the story.
