This attitude I will never understand.

I'll keep out of the whole ''the movie should/should not be exactly like the book'' discussion. But if you only have enough source material for one or two movies, why the hell would adding filler to stretch it to three movies be a good idea? It just dilutes the actual impact of the main plotline.

Because they are making a lot more money by doing it...

Not that hard of a concept to grasp.

It's not a concept a consumer should have to grasp. It doesn't benefit us and it's fucking stupid.

I don't really care if a character in the movie says some lines that should've been said by another character, or cutting some characters/scenes out of a book (i.e. Bombadil in LOTR). Some things that work in text don't work on the screen and visa versa.

But just plain adding unrelated stuff to prolong the movies to make extra money? I'd call that soulless.

Not random or unrelated, other events outlined in similarion and other essays as to what was going on in middle earth at the same time as the hobbit book.

Haven't seen the second Hobbit movie.
and it's been a long time since I've read any of the books.

But afaik, Silmarillion is before Hobbit, Hobbit is before LOTR.

But hey, like I said I don't mind if the movie doesn't follow the main storylines of the books exactly.

But making The Hobbit a trilogy? That's just wrong.
If that is justified, then LOTR should've been 10 movies easily.

Do you understand at all what the Silmarillion was? Do you understand that it was scrapped and the LOTR was what took it's place? I read online that some guy said that something about this was related to these bullshit plot points, I'm going to use it as a reference on jsp to pretend that I know what I'm talking about. Come on now.

The Silmarillion was also an unfinished piece of work and should not be cited as law/fact in the Tolkien universe, if you wanna get technical about it. So please enough with this excuse, everyone defending these movies automatically defers to the Silmarillion and it's just not even a 100% credible source, kind of idiotic lol.

Yes I'm a fan boy, feel free to mock/rage.

What do you mean Silmarillion was scrapped and LOTR took it's place?

Events in Silmarillion describe the history leading up to the events of LOTR. As far as I remember.

Silmarillion was the original script that tokien sent in for his "sequel" to the Hobbit. Which had events that happened before and after the story line of the Hobbit. The story was rejected and he came back with "A Long Expected Party", which later turned into the LOTR trilogy.

Yes, but what do you mean 'scrapped'?

AFAIK The Silmarillion is considered canon.
