I'm wondering what that thing is supposed to be. These people have shown they have the power to shut down any trial, and cow any judge, they likely control the media too... Why would a blackmail attempt be so dangerous to them?

Either the authors never thought this through, or the fulcrum is far far more than a blackmail file
