just finished catching up ... season 4 was pretty good compared to the other seasons.... at least now they're leaving the prison. it was too safe, and they weren't finding out anything new about the virus.
speaking of viruses.... a couple things about this random illness bothered me
1. why are they looking for antibiotics if antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections...this illness was clearly a viral infection, so how the hell would it help "cure" a viral infection?
2. wouldn't hershel be the most succeptible to a virus since older people are more immunocompromised? i'd expect him to be the first one infected out of anyone... not to mention he didn't cover his face
A quote from kirkman.
Quote
Pulling in a new threat in your fourth season, I think, is a good thing,” Kirkman said of the virus. “Also, it’s important to know that this is really just some form of the Spanish Flu. It’s something that exists in our everyday world now; it’s a time where there is no modern medicine. Scott Gimple, the new showrunner, really wanted to explore that new possibility of the simple things, the really little things, coming to devastate these people. That’s what we’re going to explore.”
Prolonged effects of the spanish flu can and did cause pneumonia(bacterial), which was the leading contributor of deaths amongst influenza cases. The antibiotics treat the infection while the body fights off the viral side of things. It's not that far fetched. As for hershel being more susceptible. while the elderly are in more danger, it doesn't always mean they'll get sick.
